The Essence of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest systems of natural healing, originating in India more than 5,000 years ago. It teaches that true health comes from balance, in body, mind, and spirit and that each person’s path to wellness is unique based on their dosha (mind-body constitution): Vata, Pitta, or Kapha.
The goal of Ayurveda is not just to treat disease, but to promote harmony with nature and help individuals live a long, healthy, and purposeful life by aligning with their natural constitution, environment, and daily rhythms.
Ayurveda in Sanskrit literally means “the science of life” or “knowledge of longevity.”
It comes from two Sanskrit roots:
- Āyu — meaning life, lifespan, or vital energy
- Veda — meaning knowledge, wisdom, or science
So, Ayurveda = the knowledge or science of life and longevity.
